Unsweetened Applesauce

Keeping the added sugar out of your applesauce is not only healthier for you, it also gives you the opportunity to create a savory sauce by adding ingredients later. Try these savory options: to serve with beef, combine 1/2 cup fresh horseradish with 2 cups apple sauce. For pork or chicken, add 2 tablespoons of honey , zest of one lime, 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger and 1/2 teaspoon curry powder to 2 cups of applesauce.
INGREDIENTS:
10 medium apples peeled, cored, and quartered
1 tablespoon water or lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
INSTRUCTIONS:
Place the apples in a large saucepan with the water and nutmeg.
Cover and cook over low heat for approximately 30 minutes, or until the apples are tender. Your choice to keep it chunky or transfer it to a blender or food processor to the desired consistency.
